DESCRIPTION:The Mendel family has always believed in showing up. On Sunday, February 22, 2026, we have another chance to do just that.\nAlderman Matt O’Shea’s “Get Behind the Vest” Pancake Breakfast will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. John Fisher Elementary School (Kane Hall), 10200 S. Washtenaw Ave., Chicago.\nThis annual event supports the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation’s Get Behind the Vest Campaign, which helps provide replacement bulletproof vests for Chicago Police Officers. Vests must be replaced every few years, and the cost adds up quickly. This campaign ensures officers have the protection they need while serving our neighborhoods.\nEven better, Mendel alumni will be on site helping during the event (specific times to be announced). When you walk through those doors, there’s a good chance you’ll see a familiar face flipping pancakes, pouring coffee, or greeting guests at the door.\nTickets:\n$5 per person\n$25 per family\nThis is more than breakfast. It’s community. It’s service. It’s the Mendel tradition of standing behind those who stand for us.\nIf you’re able, bring your family, invite a classmate, and stop by. Let’s make it a mini-reunion with purpose. 💙\n
