{"id":1742,"date":"2023-06-05T10:57:42","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T15:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mendelchs.org\/hof\/?p=1742"},"modified":"2023-11-13T09:53:26","modified_gmt":"2023-11-13T15:53:26","slug":"ronald-cregier-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mendelchs.org\/hof\/ronald-cregier-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Ronald Cregier, Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Mendel Boy&#8217;s Basketball: Assistant Coach 1972-1973, Head Coach 1974 \u2013 1975<br>Coached Mendel Catholic&#8217;s inaugural participation in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Boy&#8217;s Basketball State Tournament (1975), winning two games in early rounds of the IHSA East Regional. Coached three (3) Boy&#8217;s Basketball Hall of Fame inductees: Ray Collins (Class of &#8217;79\/ deceased); Carl Everett (Class of &#8217;75) and Edward Dickson (Class of &#8217;75).<br>Coach Cregier taught Business Law\/Economics during his four (4) year tenure at Mendel where he impacted a generation of student-athletes. He helped shape a winning\/competitive team culture and a standard of excellence, that laid the foundation for future successful Boy&#8217;s Basketball programs.<br>Coach Cregier retired from coaching after a stellar 42 year career as a basketball coach at Mount Carmel HS, Mendel Catholic, Saint Viator HS, Schaumburg HS, Fremd HS. and Harper College. This exemplary impact was recognized by his induction to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame in 2015. Coach Cregier was also inducted into the St. Bede Academy, Peru, Illinois, Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2018. Further, School District 211 renamed a local tournament, the Ron Cregier Memorial Basketball Tournament, in his honor.<br>Coach Cregier&#8217;s commitment to the spirit of Mendel was demonstrated by the connections he maintained with several of his former Mendel players since 1975 serving as a mentor and friend.<br>One of Coach Cregier&#8217;s former players, and who maintained a connection with him for more than 40 years, commented on his integrity and his strong character. His devotion to his family and teaching life lessons to young athletes of various social backgrounds was his motivation and &#8220;The Key&#8221; to his achievements.<br>He was a great father to his twin daughters, Nicole and Danielle; and his son, Jonathan; and an &#8216;exceptional&#8217; grandfather to their children. As described by his daughter Nicole, &#8216;the grandfather everybody would want to have.&#8221;<br>Mrs. Cregier commented for this nomination, \u201cthat Mendel Catholic is where it all began for Coach Cregier. Mendel will always be associated with Coach in his life, and reflected in interviews, written articles, and with his history.\u201d<br>In an interview, Coach Cregier stated about his start in coaching, that Fr.
