Led and developed programs as a member of the 100 Black Men of Chicago, the Leadership Advisory Committee of the Art Institute of Chicago, the YMCA\u2019s Achievers Program and Southside\/Wabash Board, and the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science.

I have a tremendous sense of pride with being an alum of Mendel for a number of reasons:
Mendel has a unique history of academic excellence. Mendel\u2019s reputation as a school of academic excellence attracted universities and AT&T Bell Labs to recruit students for their Bell Labs Engineering Scholarship Program. With 15 students selected nationwide for the full ride scholarship, Mendel students were selected for the program for a number of consecutive years from the mid-70s to the early 80s. I\u2019m fortunate for attending Mendel, and having access to this opportunity, which launched my career.
Mendel has a tremendous social brand, known throughout Chicago from the 70s to the 80s as a
place where high schoolers from around the Chicagoland area would converge for our bi-level
discos. It\u2019s influence in bringing people together to become lifelong friends regardless of the school
they attended, the impact on the music business as it became a place for DJs to break new records,
and the fond memories that many students from that era reminisce on to this day, are additional
reasons that I\u2019m proud of being part of that era and movement.
Mendel had a significant athletic brand with the accomplishments of the wrestling, track, and basketball teams. Alumni followed those accomplishments with pride. These and multiple dimensions of a well-rounded brand of academics, social, and athletics, and the brand identity established in social, business, and university circles, are reasons I\u2019m proud to be a
