There is no
honor that I will ever hold in higher esteem. The years at Mendel helped shape
my life every bit as much as if I were a 17 year old kid. So many lessons I
learned about achieving things that I was not sure were even possible, except
that a bunch of young men felt that they were possible. With that as a
motivator, I couldn’t afford to let them down. Watching the many young men go
on and become successful, have been one of the great rewards of my life.
Looking back on some of the places that I have been, and things that I might
have done, I recognize now that the happiest and most rewarding years were
those at Mendel. Finally, to have Mendel say “thank you” to me by bestowing
upon me this honor, is truly an exclamation point in my life. I’ve gotta tell
you. Whenever you send me one of the letters as you have done over time, I
always have to take time to gather my thoughts. Especially now, as I get older,
the memories of happy times at Mendel flood through my mind, and the very
thought that I might possibly have helped your generation that now basically
leads our country, city, business world, etc. move forward, fills me with joy
and humility. I greatly appreciate,
from the bottom of my soul, your efforts on my behalf as far as the Hall of
Fame is concerned. Whatever takes place, understand that I am moved beyond
words to express my gratitude for all of the fine work that you do for our
history, our love, our passion and our maturity base.
