The Mendel Catholic Prep Alumni Association recently hosted an unforgettable gathering that brought together proud Men of Mendel for a special cruise on the Chicago River. On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, alumni and guests embarked on the maiden voyage of the “Augustinians on a Boat” event, a heartfelt thank-you to the Augustinians for their enduring contributions to making the world a better place.

The evening kicked off with departures from two convenient locations. The Fort Dearborn Boat, courtesy of Chicago Line Cruises, set sail promptly at 6:30 PM from 465 N. McClurg Court, nestled in the hidden Ogden Slip branch of the Chicago River, just behind Pinstripes Cafe. For those coming from the south side, shuttle buses departed from St. Rita High School at 7740 South Western Avenue at 5:00 PM, ensuring everyone could join the festivities with ease.

Over the course of the two-hour cruise, participants enjoyed stunning views of Chicago’s iconic skyline as the boat glided along the river. The open bar kept spirits high, while delicious sandwiches provided the perfect fuel for lively conversations and reminiscing about Mendel days. Alumni reconnected, shared stories from their time at the historic college prep high school, and celebrated the lasting bonds formed under the guidance of the Augustinian Order.

Space was limited on the Fort Dearborn Boat, and the event filled up quickly— a testament to the strong community spirit among Mendel graduates. Attendees praised the relaxed atmosphere, the beautiful evening weather, and the opportunity to honor the Augustinians in such a unique setting.

A special shoutout goes to Mike Dreznes for his tireless efforts in organizing this event. For any comments or inquiries about future gatherings, reach him at (707) 344-5878.
