Mendel Catholic High School alumnus Don Triveline will be a featured panelist at the Michigan Epilepsy Foundation’s Wellness and Epilepsy Conference, delivering a presentation titled “Dream Big: Setting Goals and Creating Your Own Path.”

This year’s conference focuses on helping individuals with epilepsy build independent and fulfilling lives through strong support systems, education and career planning, and goal-setting. Don’s session will highlight practical steps for navigating housing, transportation, and daily structure—while encouraging attendees to focus on their strengths and long-term vision.

A Message of Understanding and Empowerment

Don plans to begin his presentation by expressing gratitude to the Michigan Epilepsy Foundation for the opportunity to share his experiences and by acknowledging the many people whose lives are also touched by epilepsy—families, caregivers, doctors, and friends.

“As much as people want to support us in times of need, it’s just as important that we educate those around us about how we feel and what we experience living with epilepsy.”

From Mendel to Michigan: A Life of Purpose and Discipline

Don’s journey with epilepsy began at age ten, when he experienced his first petit mal seizures. Through determination and discipline, he overcame numerous challenges—from childhood incidents on the baseball field and bike rides to his first grand mal seizure in college. His story reflects years of perseverance and growth, guided by the lessons learned at Mendel Catholic High School.

“Wearing a sport coat and tie every day taught discipline. Athletics taught leadership. Our mentors and coaches taught faith and accountability.”

Those values carried him forward through a distinguished career in academics, athletics, and business. After earning both a B.S. and M.S., Don became one of the youngest college wrestling coaches in the nation at age 22, served as Assistant Athletic Director at the University of Michigan, spoke at the U.S. Sports Academy Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and later transitioned into the investment industry.

Living Strong and Staying Consistent

Don attributes his success and wellness to his unwavering commitment to structure and fitness:

  • Fitness: Two-time Senior Olympics Powerlifting Champion, setting new state records.
  • Focus: Uses a Franklin Planner daily to organize tasks and goals using his proven A-B-C method.
  • Consistency: Keeps strict medication, meal, sleep, and exercise routines—every single day.

A Team Approach to Life with Epilepsy

Don’s closing message at the upcoming conference will center on unity and teamwork:

“For those of us living with epilepsy—and for the family and friends who support us—remember we are a TEAM. There is no ‘I’ in TEAM, and together we strive to build the best team possible—one that supports, uplifts, and grows stronger side by side.”

The Mendel Alumni community congratulates Don Triveline on being selected to share his story at this important statewide event. His example of discipline, resilience, and purpose stands as a reflection of the Mendel spirit—strong, grounded, and always striving for excellence.
