The Mendel Alumni Association mourns the loss of a beloved member, Gino T. Pacetti, who passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on November 4, 2023. His departure leaves behind a legacy that resonates with the same vibrancy as the music he so passionately taught and shared.

Born on April 25, 1935, in Chicago to Thomas and Marie Pacetti, Gino was the cherished patriarch of a family that bloomed in harmony with his life’s work. He was the dearest husband of the late Patricia K. Pacetti, and a loving father to Catherine, Thomas, Patti Anne, and James. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he was adored by many, his teachings and love echoing through generations.

A revered music educator, Gino’s tenure spanned across prominent Chicago high schools, including St. Rita and Brother Rice, and extended to his influential role as the band and chorus director at Mendel High School and Conrady Jr. High School, where his passion for music and technology intertwined. His dedication to education was mirrored in his service at St. Germaine Parish in Oak Lawn, where he was not only the music director but also a figure who shaped the community through various leadership roles.

As the Mendel Alumni Association reflects on Gino’s life, it is not just the notes and rhythms that he taught which are recalled, but the underlying beat of his devotion to family, students, and community. His impact reached beyond the walls of schools and into the heart of his parish, serving with the Vincent DePaul Society and greeting mass attendees with the warmth that characterized his every interaction.

Gino’s commitment to faith and education was recognized by the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council, where he served as a representative and leader, always striving to ensure the voice of Catholic education was heard. His association with the Dubuque Presentation Sisters further exemplified his dedication to spiritual and educational growth.

The funeral services will be a tribute to Gino’s life and legacy, held on Friday, November 10th, at Our Lady at St. Germaine Church, 9737 S. Kolin Avenue, Oak Lawn. The visitation will begin at 4:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Mass at 6:00 pm. In a life so beautifully lived, it is fitting that Gino’s final note is one that encourages giving; in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Presentation Sisters of Dubuque, a cause close to his heart.

As the Mendel community says goodbye to Gino, the Southside Music Man, it is with deep respect and gratitude for the symphony of memories he leaves behind. His was a life that embodied the true spirit of education and service, and his melody will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Gino Pacetti, your music plays on in the lives of all you touched.
