On Wednesday July 10, 2024, ninety-one golfers “teed it up” and participated in the 25th Mendel Alumni Association Annual Golf Outing at Hickory Hills Golf Course.

This year’s Golf Committee, consisting of Chairman Bill Johnson (’68), Andy Youpel (’66), Tom Gavin (’67), John Knoebel (’75), Rich Williams (’62), Bill Duffy (’64), Rick Zarr (’71), Kelvin Lovely (’78), Pat Regan (’68) and Mike Dreznes (’68) did a wonderful job planning and organizing the Outing.

After a shaky start, The weather ultimately cooperated, and Golf Committee Chairman Bill Johnson (‘68) welcomed everyone to this wonderful event.

Using a shotgun start, the foursomes proceeded to challenge the Hickory Hills Golf Course. In a very competitive match, Paul Carvey (’68), Frank Kruse (’68), Tom Kabat(’68) and Tom Bitgen , (Frank Kruse cousin) finished with a score of seven under to win by one stroke over four other teams.

Rich Williams (’62) and his wife Sharon did an incredible job collecting prizes for the attendees. Everyone went home with a prize either from the Prize Table, the Split the Pot or the Raffle.

The Veterans display on the eleventh hole, in honor of November 11th (11/11) was especially impressive.

The Golf Outing raised over $12,000, which will be used to fund The Mendel Alumni Association Scholarships, as well as to provide support for the Augustinian priests who taught us at Mendel Catholic High School.

A special thank you to everyone who volunteered to work at the Golf Outing, especially the daughters of Kelvin Lovely, who were critical to the success of this year’s Golf Outing.
