Today, we are excited to announce a significant collaboration between the Mendel Hall of Fame Committee and the Mendel Alumni Association Board of Directors. We proudly introduce an initiative that will periodically honor the Championship Teams in our 37-year history, branded as the “Monarchs Den of Honor.”

The primary criterion for recognition in the “Den” is that the team must have secured a minimum of a League Championship. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the Mendel Hall of Fame and encourage individual alumni applications and nominations for potential membership.

In a fitting tribute to our rich history, the Mendel Alumni Association has nominated Coach Joe MaGee for induction into the Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame. In alignment with this nomination, we are thrilled to announce that the inaugural member of the “Monarchs Den of Honor” will be the Mendel 1957 City of Chicago Football Champion team.

This legendary team achieved a remarkable victory over Calumet High School in the final moments of the game, thrilling a crowd of over 72,000 fans at Soldier Field in frigid 20-degree temperatures. Their triumph is not only a cherished part of Mendel’s history but also a story that resonates like a Hollywood classic.

As we celebrate this team and their incredible accomplishments, we encourage all alumni to reflect on their own journeys and the successes they have achieved, representing Mendel in various fields. We invite you to take the initiative to nominate fellow alumni for the Mendel Hall of Fame.
