Mendel Memories: The Fight Song That Still Brings Us Back

For many Mendel alumni, the school fight song was more than something sung at a game. It was part of the sound of Mendel. It was pride, tradition, and brotherhood in a few unforgettable lines.
Back in 1995, the Chicago Tribune told the story of Jack and Mike Dreznes, two Mendel Catholic graduates who helped bring that tradition back to life through a CD of Chicago-area Catholic high school fight songs.
The album featured Mendel alongside many familiar South Side and Catholic League names, including Leo, Mt. Carmel, St. Rita, Brother Rice, De La Salle, St. Laurence, and others.
As Mike Dreznes said in the story, hearing those songs again brought people right back to their schools. For Mendel men, that feeling never really goes away.
