On Friday, August 21, 2026, 79 Mendel Monarchs, alumni, friends and supporters gathered at Hickory Hills Country Club for the 27th Annual Mendel Monarchs Fore-Ever Golf Outing. A sunny morning and shotgun start kicked off a full day of golf, friendship and familiar Mendel camaraderie.

More importantly, the outing raised just over $14,000 for the Mendel Alumni Association. Proceeds will help support the Legacy Scholarship Program, Veterans and First Responders events, retired Augustinians who taught at Mendel, and the ongoing work of the Alumni Association.

A Day of Golf, Friendship and Tradition

Golf Committee Chairman Bill Johnson ’68 and his committee spent months organizing the outing and working with the staff at Hickory Hills Country Club to make the event a success.

From the first putt to the final hole, the day was filled with laughter, old friendships and opportunities to make new ones. After golf, participants were joined by additional guests for an Awards Luncheon in the Hickory Hills Country Club banquet room.

Sponsors, Prizes and a Big Silent Auction

Rich Williams ’62 and his committee helped secure hole sponsors, golf prizes, door prizes, raffle items and Silent Auction packages.

Among the auction items were Chicago White Sox tickets, Chicago Bulls tickets, golf foursomes, shirts, golf clubs and other prizes.

One of the highlights came from Jack Boylan ’61, who donated three luxury-suite tickets to the September 19 Notre Dame–Michigan State football game, including parking and food and beverage.

The Champs Defend Their Crown

The foursome of David Ireland ’78, Dale Ireland ’87, Rodney Chambers ’86 and Johnny Walker ’83 posted the lowest net score and successfully defended their 2025 Mendel Golf Outing title.

And they already have 2027 in their sights. David Ireland has declared the foursome ready to go for a three-peat next year.
