ALUMNI ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Chairman
Kelvin Lovely ('78) | HR Consultant | Westchester
Kelvin's leadership started at Mendel as an NHS student senate member, so it's no surprise his career includes over thirty-seven years of experience managing HR departments for multi-billion dollar companies. He majored in Human Resources at Marquette and is currently living in Westchester.
TERM - 8/1/22-7/31/25
President
Tom Gavin ('67) | Palos Heights
Tom's career has been deeply influenced by his family, faith, and Mendal roots. Excelling in three sports—football, baseball, and hockey—while serving as a class officer and a member of the National Honor Society, Tom demonstrated a remarkable ability to balance academic and athletic achievements with responsibility. He was a scholarship athlete at Brown University, where he played football and baseball for three years. After graduating, Tom taught and coached at Hales Franciscian High School. He later shifted careers to the community newspaper industry, where he has been involved for nearly 48 years. Additionally, Tom has been a business associate in a local cable television company and a public relations firm, and has spent two decades working for the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways. At home, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife, Linnea, and is a proud father to two sons, Tom and Mike, and a doting grandfather to three grandchildren who entertain him with their sports and musical activities. For leisure, he enjoys coaching his grandsons, participating in competitive sports, and engaging in cultural activities. Tom and Linnea particularly enjoy playing golf at the legendary Midlothian Country Club. A true "Southsider" at heart, Tom is an enthusiastic supporter of the White Sox, often cheering them on with spirited cries of "GO, You White Sox, GO!"
Vice-President
John Mikenis ('73) | Aloha OR
John attended the St. Isidore Grammar School and was raised in Calumet Park, Ill. At Mendel, John was a member of the football team and Knights of St. Augustine. Mikenis went on to earn a BS degree in accounting at Bradley University - ‘77. During college, John served as both Treasurer and President of the Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity. Mikenis went on to earn an MBA with honors at Portland State University - ‘90 and a certificate in the 3-year professional program at the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington - ‘94. Additionally, he taught organizational design and change in the undergraduate business school at the University of Portland. John’s professional career spans 40 years in commercial banking and finance with national, regional, and community-oriented institutions.
A passion for youth sports found Mikenis serving as a competitive club soccer coach for FC Portland Academy. John also served as volunteer Treasurer for US Youth Soccer - Region IV, Oregon Youth Soccer Association, and FC Portland. John has been married to Donna (Gorzynski) of Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in Westchester, Ill. since 1977. The couple's 2 daughters are bi-coastal residents with one in Oregon and the second in Brooklyn, NY. Today, they enjoy their 3 grandchildren, Oregon Ducks football (Go Ducks!), and life in the Pacific Northwest.
Treasurer
Pat Regan ('68) | Retired CPA | Wheaton
Pat has been a numbers guy since day one. He majored in accounting at DePaul, received his MBA from Aurora University, and achieved his CPA in 1977. Anyone that knew Pat in High school, it is no surprise that his career would lead to CFO, COO, and CEO of influential companies.
Now retired and living in Wheaton, Pat is married with three children. When he has any free time, you can catch him on the links or cheering on the Go-Go White Sox.
TERM - 8/1/22-7/31/25
Secretary
Mike (Zeke) Dreznes ('68) | Retired Transportation Executive | Chicago
Mike has made the world safer due to his forty-plus years in the road safety industry. However, making the International Road Federation a household name is not his most remarkable accomplishment. His greatest achievement was convincing his high school sweetheart Margaret to stay married to him for over fifty years. Mike is a proud father to three and grandfather to ten. Mike is now living in the South Loop, so you can still find him perusing S. Michigan Ave. looking for the best beef sandwich in Chicago.
Mike is a graduate of Loyola and earned his MBA from DePaul. His frustrations as a baseball fan are evident since he can't decide if he loves or hates the Cubs and Sox equally.
